Applications are invited for the post of Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer for Wixams Parish Council.   Wixams is a developing community situated south of Bedford Town Centre, near the junction of the A421 and the A6.   Wixams Parish Council came into existence in May 2015 following a Community Governance Review which concluded that the growing community of Wixams should have its own Parish Council (having previously been part of Wilstead parish). This presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious person to make their mark on the council and the community.

The successful candidate will be pro-active and self-reliant with the ability to balance diplomacy and discretion with the determination to get things done. An early initiative will be to take forward the recommendations of a Parish Action Plan (informed by the community in its response to a survey in 2017). The role will require a high level of personal commitment, accurate administrative and financial ability in addition to excellent communication skills (both written and oral). A sound knowledge of local government law and procedures is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to have the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA).

The post is for 20 hours a week (inclusive of evening meetings) within the salary range (£23,398 – £25,951 (pro rata, pay award pending)). Applicants will be required to be flexible to meet the operational requirements of the council’s work and will be required to attend some evening meetings.
